A Violent Weekend in Tennessee

In a 48 period, there were at least 12 shootings in Tennessee resulting in eight deaths. Three of the shootings were domestic in nature and involved family members, including a son-in-law who killed his mother-in-law and then shot, a husband who fatally shot his wife, and a son who fatally shot his father.

Friday – Memphis
Two men in masks went into a Parkway Village convenience store as the 54-year-old manager was closing, shot him, then loaded up on cash from the register and office and drove off. The manager was well-known in the community. The suspects still at large.

Friday – Chattanooga
Police were called to the scene of a shooting where they found a juvenile who had been shot in the stomach. He was transported to the hospital. The suspect is still at large. Police are investigating.

Friday – Murfreesboro
Tanner Lancaster, 25, fatally shot his father, 63-year-old Perry Lancaster in the Murfreesboro home they shared. The son has been charged with first degree murder.

Friday – Johnson City
A convicted felon fired a shot before fleeing the scene of a crash near Science Hill High School late Friday night. Witnesses said the man exited his vehicle, grabbed a rifle and fired a shot in an unknown direction. He left before police arrived but they quickly found him and his rifle hidden in a nearby bush. Police found a handgun, methamphetamine and crack cocaine in his car.

Friday – Collierville
One person was killed and a suspect was in custody Friday night after a shooting at a Collierville industrial park. The 21-year-old suspect was a former coworker of the victim. The suspect is in custody.

Saturday – Unicoi County
A man shot and killed his mother-in-law and then fatally shot himself. The 93-year-old woman was suffering from Alzheimer’s and was in a wheelchair. The bodies were found on the driveway outside of a home. Their identities have not been revealed.

Saturday – Nashville
A man and a juvenile are now in custody after a standoff at a gas station with Metro Police and a SWAT team early Saturday morning. A 22-year-old armed man and 14-year-old teen entered the store. The clerk called the police and when they arrived, the two suspects barricaded themselves inside. Eventually the teen surrendered. Not long after, the adult surrendered as well. Charges have been filed against both.

Saturday – Memphis
One man is dead after a triple shooting in Parkway Village Saturday night. When investigators arrived on the scene, one man was found fatally shot. Two other victims were hospitalized. No arrests have been made at this time. This is an ongoing investigation.

Sunday – Nashville
A SWAT team worked for five hours to negotiate with a man who barricaded himself inside a north Nashville apartment after shooting a person. He eventually was coaxed outside by distraction devices. He was armed the entire time.

Sunday night – A man was found shot to death in the 5100 block of Kaye Avenue in East Memphis Sunday night. The shooting is being investigated as a homicide. Police are investigating. The shooter is at large.

Sunday – Nashville
A dispute over a fender-bender in an Antioch parking lot led to a fatal shooting last night. Three men in a truck got into an argument with the driver and passenger of another car that was involved in the collision. The driver of the truck reportedly shot the men who were inside the car, killing the 27-year-old passenger. The gunman and the other men reportedly fled the area.

Sunday – Altamont
A man entered a residence and found his wife with another man. The man’s wife and the other man attempted to leave the home but were shot by the woman’s husband. The woman’s father shot at and hit the husband, keeping him from continuing to fire; however, the father also was shot. The woman died of her injuries.

Sunday – Nashville
Police said they were in a parking lot for a car theft when shots were fired from a red Chevrolet car. A woman was shot twice in the arm. While officials were helping her, the suspect’s vehicle came back and fired more shots, hitting two tires on a police cruiser. Officials said they’re searching for the vehicle.
